My Favorite Holiday Drink: Cinnamon Mocktail
This post is about my favorite cinnamon mocktail recipe.
Why I Stopped Drinking Alcohol & Started Loving Mocktails
About 5 years ago or so I decided to stop drinking alcohol. This decision was partially because I had a health scan that came back saying that out of allllllll the things in the world that would be bad for my personal health (the results could have said corn or cats or Tylenol or whatever…) white wine was the worst.
This wasn’t super surprising because I had a grandmother on each side that had been an alcoholic. If alcohol was coming back as something very bad for my specific makeup then I didn’t want that.
Another reason I decided to stop drinking alcohol was that I was going through a very very hard time with our son having PANS. It was so extremely depressing and overwhelming and although I almost never bought alcohol for the home and also never drank more than one drink when out, I knew that I was vulnerable, had a family history of alcoholism (through my grandmothers not parents), and that there would be a high chance that if a glass of wine took the edge off of my daily misery that I would become dependent on it and I couldn’t let that happen.
Lastly, I stopped drinking because I started feeling sick- stomach ache and just really toxic after I drank- again, just one drink and I would feel so awful- it wasn’t worth it.
Anyway, that’s my back story on why I’m now obsessed with mocktails.
Who Will Love This Cinnamon Mocktail?
Honestly, anyone that doesn’t NOT like cinnamon should really enjoy this mocktail. The taste of cinnamon is not overbearing at all and it’s not spicy at all as some cinnamon-flavored things are. I think this is because it’s flavored by real cinnamon instead of fake flavoring.
To me, this is the perfect holiday drink. It is very flavorful without being overly sweet or forward with any one flavor.
This cinnamon mocktail is great as a single-serve drink when you are wanting something special. I like to make these for our family to drink with dinner around the holidays and I think it would be the most amazing punch if you made it in large quantities.
How To Make the Cinnamon Simple Syrup
I’ve only made simple syrup once or twice before this but after this I want to try all sorts of infusions and combinations.
To make the cinnamon simple syrup:
- 1 Cup Sugar
- 2 Cups Water
- 4 Sticks of Cinnamon
Combine ingredients in a pot on the stove and stir as you heat. Cook and stir as the water evaporates until you are left with a slightly thickened syrup. The first time I made this I let it thicken too much and as it cooled it got even more thick and sticky- WAY too thick. So, don’t let that happen and if it does, just add a little bit of water and stir to mix to thin it out.
Christmas Cinnamon Mocktail Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 parts Orange Juice (no pulp is probably better)/
- 1 part Cinnamon Simple Syrup
- 4-6 parts Ginger Beer
Combine ingredients and lightly stir or shake. For a single serving use ounces (2 oz OJ, 1 oz cinnamon simple syrup, 4-6 oz ginger beer).
This post was about an amazing cinnamon mocktail recipe.
Conclusion: A Cinnamon Mocktail to Love
